Every day of our lives, we are flooded with little snippets of (supposed) inspiration, that all essentially tell us the same message over and over again… CARPE DIEM – Seize the day! Go out and LIVE your life to the fullest EVERY DAY, no matter what… Because today may just be your last day on this big beautiful world! (Cue dramatic music)
But who actually has the energy to do that every single, living day? Who is, in fact, capable of springing out of bed every morning, promising themselves that they will confess to every single emotion that runs through their body, and act on every impulse that goes screaming through their veins, no matter how big or small, and regardless of any impending consequence?
Now, I’m not encouraging you all to stay home, hide under your duvet and fritter away the rest of your remaining days on this planet, dreaming of all the things you should have done/said/not said/etc, but what I am encouraging you to do is perhaps “Carpe Diem” a little more carefully, than all these inspirational morsels and motivational quotes would have you believe you should. Remember that you just might wake up tomorrow (and the next day, and the day after that) and then you will have to live with all those deranged Carpe Diem decisions you made while you were so busy “seizing the day” and “regretting nothing”.
I agree. Life is short, love is fleeting, and people are often taken from us far too soon. So make the most of the time you have been given. Say the things you need to say, to those you need to say them to. But remember, when you wake up tomorrow (and you probably will), that what you said and did yesterday will still be remembered today, and you need to ask yourself only one question… Is it something you really want to be remembered for?
