Most normal people make New Year’s resolutions at the start of each year. A new year, a new diet, a new weight loss plan, a new exercise routine, a new wardrobe, yada, yada, yada. Noble ambitions always begin at the start of the year.
But I’m not most normal people. Any resolution I have, it gets taken care of when I actually have time away from work (yeah that’s my excuse!) like during a holiday or something. I don’t have time otherwise. Work eats everything (or is it me who eats everything?).
I always begin the year with noble ambitions of losing weight, going to the gym 3 times a week, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and a whole host of other things. But then work happens. And nothing else gets done.
Therefore, I just set my goals for every holiday I could find. This year’s Thanksgiving goals—as it goes with every Thanksgiving—is to lose weight and get back in shape. I really don’t like how I look right now. Honestly. I want to get back in shape and feel healthy again.
So I’m guzzling a gallon of water a day. I’m back to salads and slimming teas. An hour of running and weight machines at least 3 days a week. Sit-ups, stretches, curls, presses, lifts, you name it.
And after two days of this, I’m face-to-face with the grisly fact that I am horribly, horribly out of shape. Much worse than i originally thought.
Everything aches. Everything. Shoulders. Stomach. Back. Thighs. Calves. Pectorals. Every. Blessed. Thing.
But I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that after three months of hard work and self-discipline, I can get back on track. Lean, mean, and ready to face the rest of the year.
So I can repeat the cycle once again.
Hey Roomie, pass me the cashews.
